Ely - still cold

The main reason for our return to Ely was to drive the Success Loop over the mountains and see the golds and reds of the autumn colours on the aspen trees.   Sadly when we got to the aspens they were still green,

but we did see some deer crossing the road.

By this time the clouds had come down and it had started to sleet so we drove down the mountain and back into town.  As we did we drove past the KOA where we stayed earlier in the year, it looked lovely in the snow, but we were really glad that this time we were in a nice warm hotel and didn't have to worry about freezing water hoses!

We were staying at the historic Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall.   We took this photograph when we were in Ely earlier this year, probably a good job we did as it was so cold our hands would’ve been shaking trying to take photographs this time.

The rooms are named after old movie stars and we were in the Jimmy Stewart Room, while some of the movie stars stayed at the hotel I’m not sure if Jimmy Stewart ever did.   The walls were covered in old posters of his movies and we had good views of the surrounding mountains.

The following day was supposed to be cold, bright and sunny, so we decided to try the Success Loop again and see how it looked   I don’t know what happened to the sun but it turned out to be cold and cloudy.   When we got to the aspens, which are at about 8,000 ft. it started snowing quite heavily, definitely time to head back to town.

Later on we drove over to the Mexican Restaurant in the Prospector Hotel on the other side of town the food was excellent as were the margaritas.

Have fun, we are!
