The Window Trail

Befire we left Big Bend we decided to hike down the Window Trail from the Chisos Basin. It’s a nice easy 5 mile trail, but it’s the wrong way round, you go down first and then climb back up, and, unfortunately you’re in full sun all the way back and it was hot!

Needless to say there was the usual warning of a lion that could be aggressive in the area and then further down the trail was a warning of bear activity in the area. Lions and bears aren’t we the lucky ones! Mind you it was so hot down in the canyon, not to mention the amount of people hiking the trail any self respecting bear or lion would’ve found a nice shady spot to snooze the afternoon away.

The trail wound down from the Basin and through the mountains

before entering a really narrow area beside the stream.

After that we climbed in and out of the streambed, before arriving at the window, you have a great view out across the desert, but one wrong step and it’s a very long drop to the bottom.

Have fun, we are!
