Dragonfly Trail, Fort Bayard Wildlife Preserve

The Dragonfly Trail on Fort Bayard Wildlife Preserve is just under a 4 mile round trip.   The trail leads from the parking area on Arenas Valley Road across open grassland

then winds its way down to the first of several dry crossings along Twin Sisters Creek

one of the creek crossings.

About half way along the trail on a slight promontory are some rocks with petroglyphs one of which is a dragonfly.

There is also a footprint by another dragonfly.

We’ve never seen a dragonfly petroglyph before and have no idea what it means, although someone did suggest that the combination of the footprint and dragonfly could be showing the way water.   Who knows?

Have fun, we are!
