Hondo Valley

Last Sunday we left Lakewood and moved to Deer Crossing RV Park  http://deercrossingrvpark.com a 50+ rv park at San Patricio in the beautiful Hondo Valley.

It’s a lovely park, just off highway 70, nicely landscaped with lovely friendly owners, convenient benches sit along the banks of the Ruidoso river that runs along the edge of the property.

We arrived on a beautiful sunny day, but overnight a storm to the north brought us chilly temperatures and even a few flakes of snow!  Thankfully it was only a couple of days before the sunshine returned of course this is New Mexico in the spring, so anything could happen.

Our first trip was to the Hubbard Museum of the West in Ruidoso Downs further along highway 70.

At present the museum is hosting a fascinating exhibition of 3D photographs and videos of Lechugilla Cave, a cave in Carlsbad Caverns not usually open to the public.

The museum has some interesting wagons and carriages

There are also some interesting artefacts relating to Billy the Kid who roamed this area.
Have fun, we are!
