Quail Creek and Sand Hollow State Parks, Utah

We left Las Vegas heading north on I15 driving into what looked like very dodgy weather, possibly even dust, but it was nothing, just really bad air quality.

Our trip didn’t take long and the section through the Virgin river gorge was spectacular.

As we’d forgotten that Utah is an hour ahead of Las Vegas we arrived in Hurricane just after mid-day.

The next day we took a trip to Sand Hollow State Park, it’s a beautiful place with gorgeous red sands and ATV trails.

As we entered I noticed a sign stating that ‘swimmers itch’ was active.  Lots of people were busy enjoying the water, but I wasn’t at all sure I wanted to pick up ‘swimmers itch’ whatever it was, so after a little while we decamped to Quail Creek State Park.

Quail Creek State Park was quieter and had no ‘swimmers itch’ which I found out is some sort of parasite in the water related the red sand and there only being one inlet into the lake and no outlet.

At Quail Creek we found a very convenient picnic table right beside the water where we spent the rest of the day.

Yes, the water was lovely for wading, so I did and absolutely no ‘swimmers itch’!

Have fun, we are!
